Miljonmysteriet
All you ever wanted to know about Wombat, but never dared to ask...

"Wombats live in large burrows up to 100 feet long. They live alone in their burrows, but other wombats may be in a tunnel close by, and sometimes burrows can interconnect. Wombats are very shy animals."
...and the same goes for Wombat which was(/is) my small solo project. While most of my energy went into Miljonmysteriet, some ideas did not suit the pop-group format so I used synthesizers, drum machines and sapled sounds to create my own space. When I starded this in the early Eightes it was somewhat "novel", but today much more sophistcated stuff of the same nature can easily be found.

"Wombats seem to be solitary animals and not very social. There appears to be little contact between adults. When wombats meet on the surface, they try to avoid each other. Wombats are also rather obstinate, and once their mind is made up, will stop at nothing to get what they want."
I've never strived to move Wombat into something for a wider audience (i.e. getting a record contract), but there has been some distribution of the material previously, first and foremost by the two tracks (Moscow morning / evening) that I contributed to the compilation cassete "Exhaust Time" on the London based Carnival Tapes Label. Rumours has it that the tape ended up on the Sounds "Obscure"-list, if that is a merit. Exhaust Time also contained contributions from Bourbonese Qualk, Steve Ainsworth, Der Kühlstand, Enno Velthuys, New 7th Music.

"When angered, Wombats can make hissing sounds. Their call sounds somewhat like a pig's squeal. They can also make grunting noises, a low growl, a hoarse cough, and a clicking noise. Food passes through a wombat's digestive system slowly, 8 to 14 days, which enables them to extract the maximum amount of nutrients."
Anyway, if Wombat ever will produce any more music is uncertain, my life today has a completely different focus and all musical energy and creativity I can muster these days will have to be put into Miljonmysteriet. But, when the kids have grown up, the Wombat might start to stirr in his burrow again. Click on "Musik" and you find some bits and pieces that might be of interest. Feel free to download, listen and use - if you spread it further, remeber to tell where you found it!

"Wombats are stocky animals with a barrel-shaped body, thick and heavy. While their eyesight is poor, they have a keen sense of smell and excellent hearing. They are also able to detect slight ground vibrations. Wombats have the most developed brain of any marsupial and it is larger than what would be expected for their body mass. The wombat's brain entirely fills its skull, and has many surface convolutions indicating a high level of intelligence."
